“10 Things You Don’t Know About Attraction.” By my sister. For Cosmo. Sickening.

One thing that got lost over my two month absence: My little sister was recently published by Cosmopolitan! Congratulations, Cassandra! I have to admit, my family wasn’t sure if writing for Cosmo Online was the best use of a Northwestern journalism education, but when you consider a few factors, it’s actually a really good place to be: 1) it’s not like traditional journalism is showing many signs of a future right now, 2) it’s not like traditional journalism actually reports on anything different than Cosmo, and 3) writing for Cosmo in New York City makes her happy, so she did what she wanted to do. What’s interesting is that this is probably a way harder internship to come by than pretty much any other (I don’t think I had much competition when I was fighting over the right to grow cells in a lab each summer). So, in a kind of grossed out/ will never understand/ could never understand kind of way, I’m proud of my little sister.

According to Google, Cosmo is your resource for sex, horoscopes, sex, hair, oh & did I mention sex?

Anyway, enough bragging about Cassandra. If you want more of that, reach out to her directly. Za-Zing! Haha, just kidding, Cassandra. Seriously though, I’d actually like to direct you back to the post she wrote. It’s actually a pretty punchy, well-researched piece that, in true Cosmo fashion, gives you the list of ten things you need to know about biological / physiological bases for attraction.
Could a cool business be built around these findings? Not really. Except for some sort of “consultancy” that helps you figure out how to make sense of these biological signals…or a magazine that can distill it all down into a top ten list. Nonetheless, some of it’s pretty interesting.
By the way, Cassandra was actually published a few times this summer. Here she discusses Bradley Cooper’s smoking hot looks, and here she dissects female self defense techniques. All pretty useful stuff, really. Keep up the good work and doing what you love doing, Cassandra!
